1._Brief Write Up about the Project
_Clients Brief
To break away from the typical old, monotonous “ NBFC “ look and have an agile, bright, colourful yet mature environment which will foster collaboration and increase employee engagement
_Concept Write-up
The client “ HDFC Life “ is a well known and well respected NBFC. This particular office is the head office for the company located in the prestigious “ Lodha Exelus “ at Lower Parel Mumbai. The interiors of the office was done many years back and post covid, it was time to “ reimagine “ the space for the client as the culture of the workforce had changed.
“ Beyond Design Architects “ were chosen to design the project where employees feel coming back to office, work in an agile environment ( which is not very common in NBFC environment ) and feel motivated. the challenge was to have a fine balance between agility and fixed desks. Another challenge was to make it look bright and colourful but not to make it look too young. It had to look mature at the same time.
_Restraints and challenges
The reception is simple yet classy. A muted grey marble flooring, white walls and a few colourful seating accentuates the space. However the challenge for designers starts from this point onwards. The entire floor plate was literally divided into two parts with a passage 5 mtr wide, due to the local fire norms. As such, the office was divided in 2 listing zones, separated by walls and a dividing passage. The challenge was to integrate the two sides using this 5 mtr wide space. The design team cam eup with an idea of making this passage as the “ collaborative “ “ spill out “ “ meeting “ zone which binds the whole space together.
This central space being the spine of the office, was treated with bright colours, decorative ceilings and lights and lots of loose furniture.
Beyond this passage, on two sides, the focus area or the office space unfolds. As stated earlier, this space had to be bright but not over the top. Hence the design ideology was to keep the floor with bright and patterned carpet but the entire furniture and ceiling in white.
A dash of colour was added at every collaborative or team space. The open office has a good mix of various types of work-pints – linear, 120 degrees, seating around the columns, tripods, community tables. As such employees get a variety of experiences while doing their daily work.
